Knitting?

Today I tried to 'help' my biped with some blue rope. I think he wanted to untangle it and I really liked running my teeth over it. My teeth get quite sore and this makes me want to bite things...............anything will do! It all got quite involved and he kept talking about knitting.
WHAT IS KNITTING? Perhaps someone will explain this to me as I expect I will want to do it as I like to try everything at least once.
